A full-size pickup with a name like Nissan Titan should live up to its mythological name. When the first generation rose up in 2003 and 2004, it was clear to truck drivers and enthusiasts everywhere that it would -- moreover, that future generations would quickly take over the segment.
For one, Titan was a line of trucks with options galore. Trim levels ranged from the S base and midrange SV to the off-road-ready PRO-4X and two top-of-the-line offerings, SE, and LE. A luxurious SL trim would eventually supplant the last two. Two drivetrains would also be available: rear-wheel or four-wheel, the latter with shift-on-the-fly. A King (extended) cab option would reign over the only other appealing configuration at the time, a crew cab complete with a full-size back seat. In 2008, a longer wheelbase model would be offered, and the design would stand the test of time through 2015, with few changes, even earning a five-star NHTSA safety rating.
By the second generation, in 2016, the previous Titan would be superseded by an established market favorite, a newer model with gas V8 and Cummins turbodiesel V8 engine options, the latter available through 2019. There'd be a third cab offered, too -- a two-door regular -- and trim levels would span the gamut from S, SV and a 4x4-only PRO-4X to SL and Platinum Reserve. 2020 delivered an appreciated refresh, and the rest is automotive history.
