Nissan Rogue is a compact SUV that's been around since 2008, but it's never simply been just another crossover.

It was a favorite as soon as the first generation appeared in S, SV, and SL trims, available in front- or all-wheel drive and with an optional 360 Value package. The IIHS and NHTSA would rate the entire line of small SUVs well for safety right from the get-go, and Consumers Digest would name them collectively an Automotive Best Buy in 2010.

2011 would see an interior and exterior redesign as well as the release of an SL Package and an aggressively-styled Krom Edition. A Special Edition would replace Krom alongside minor updates in 2012, and the first line would run until 2013, when it was replaced temporarily by Nissan Rogue Select. This had to be done for 2014 and 2015, since an all-new Rogue had gone on sale in 2013 for 2014 and the two lines needed to be distinguished.

2014 Nissan Rogue, for a second generation, would be based on the rugged Nissan X-Trail and inspired by the Hi-Cross concept vehicle. By the time of a round of 2016 updates and the 2017 model year, it'd become a US best-seller. A facelift would follow that year, alongside limited Rogue Hybrid and Rogue One Star Wars editions.

With a few 2018 tech updates and a third-generation release in 2020, one of America's favorite crossovers is still going strong today.
